Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling is a specialized technique that involves inserting fine, sterile needles into specific trigger points or tight knots within muscles. Unlike traditional acupuncture, which is based on ancient Chinese medicine and focuses on the flow of energy (qi), Dry Needling targets neuromuscular trigger points to release tension and restore normal muscle function. The term "dry" refers to the fact that the needles used in this technique do not contain any medication or fluid.

How does Dry Needling work?

During a Dry Needling session at Restore Physiotherapy Centre, our skilled physiotherapists will first conduct a thorough assessment to identify the trigger points causing pain and dysfunction. Once identified, the therapist will gently insert the needles into these targeted areas. The insertion of the needle causes a local twitch response, which is an involuntary, quick contraction of the muscle. This response helps to relax the muscle fibers, increase blood flow, and release endorphins, the body's natural pain-relieving chemicals.

Benefits of Dry Needling

Targeted Pain Relief: Dry Needling provides precise pain relief by directly targeting trigger points responsible for pain and discomfort.

Improved Muscle Function: By releasing tension and knots within muscles, Dry Needling can restore normal muscle function and enhance mobility.

Faster Recovery: When used in conjunction with other physiotherapy treatments, Dry Needling can expedite the healing process, especially for sports injuries and repetitive strain injuries.

Non-Invasive and Safe: Dry Needling is a minimally invasive procedure, and when performed by trained professionals, it is safe with minimal risk of complications.

Versatility: Dry Needling can be used to address a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, and headaches.
